Your Face
Chapter 2
By Crystal

That morning it was gray. Dismal. Foggy. Moody. Rain trickled down as if angels were crying softly from above. All was quiet. All was calm.

Georgia turned in her bed and opened her eyes, looking out to the gray world through her tiny window. She had seen it a thousand times before; this time wasn't any different. It was the same view. The same world. The same people. The same.

She turned on her back and stared blankly up at the ceiling, listening to the rhythmic beat of the rain. She felt strangely enveloped in the big, white bed and the white room. But at the same time she felt as if she weren't there at all. As if it were only her eyes that watched and nothing else. She felt nothing and everything all at the same time. It was a feeling she knew she would be used to for the rest of the days she lived. She didn't know how she knew, but she did.

Georgia shut her eyes and let words from the night before echo in her head.

'I never meant to hurt you… I know this is painful for you too… I need to move on… I fell out of love with you…'

She opened her eyes and sat up in her empty bed. The pale light from the outside flowed in her room, illuminating every wall.

After a long shower and changing into sweats and a tee shirt, Georgia went to her kitchen to eat a lonely breakfast. She quietly warmed a blueberry muffin, poured herself a glass of orange juice and sat down at her table, alone. As she ate her tasteless food, she stared out into nothingness. A picture caught her attention. It was of her and her now ex-fiancee, Thomas. Georgia got up from her chair and walked to the picture. She picked it up and stared at the photo. It was taken the night he had proposed to her. He had held her in his arms as the picture was taken.

Georgia took the picture out of its frame, set the frame back down and laid the picture face down on the counter.

She glanced around at her lonely home and let a tear escape from her swollen eye. "I can't stay here." Her voice was barely audible, weak, and dull; no life was left in it. She slipped on a pair of shoes, took her car keys and left.

Once she was in the car she turned off the radio and just drove. She really had no place in mind to go, she just drove. She turned out onto the highway and went. A strand of hair fell in her face and as she took one hand off the wheel to tuck it back into place, she hit a rock, causing her free hand to spin the wheel. In a panic, Georgia put both hands back on the wheel to control the car. She felt dizzy all of a sudden, as if she were turning. Everything happened so fast that she never saw the car. And just as suddenly as it had happened, it was over. In a flash she saw the sky blur and everything went black. She felt nothing..
